It is a matter of pride & the privilege to notice that Dr. Uday Bodhankar has contributed immensely for the welfare of children & mothers ever since his early professional career for more than 40 years as evident from his curriculum vitae.
Dr. Bodhankar has excelled all through his academic career, and keen to ensure that all children must enjoy a good quality of life through better neonatal & childhood care. He strived hard as a Pediatrician and as a social worker.
In those various vital positions that he held & currently holding, he has not only promoted child health Care & maternal care but also strived hard for the welfare of under privilege (BPL) community. The health scenario of maternal & neonatal care is extremely vital to control the staggeringly high neonatal mortality in the developing countries, including India.
Through his current position EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – Commonwealth Association for Health & Disability (UK), he is in a position to assist more than 54 commonwealth countries especially the developing ones all over the world, in controlling birth asphyxia that is a leading cause of neonatal death & morbidity.
.Till now over a period of 40 years he has organized various National and International Workshops related to Newborn & child health and disability with the help of WHO, UNICEF, Ministry of Health, Govt of India, and in collaboration with USA universities like UIC Chicago and with University of Sydney Australia .
He has been awarded the outstanding pediatrician of Asia award in China in Oct. 2009, being the First Indian child specialist to have this highest Asian unique honour of being selected from 23 Asian countries of the world for his distinguished service for the welfare of newborn and children of Asia.
He has been the first pediatrician from Asia, who has the rare distinguished honour of being invited by Her Majesty the Queen of England at Buckingham Palace, London and was honored by Queen Elizabeth as the first Asian secretary-general of Commonwealth Association for Health & Disability (UK) on 28th April 2009.

He has been Co-Author and contributor to many textbooks in pediatric and neonatology like “ Rational Pediatric Practice “ an official publication of Indian Academy of Pediatrics – a recognized referral book for practitioners.& contributed many articles related to child health in regional and National/International News Papers and Periodicals.

He has Distinguished Honour of being included in “ASIA‘s WHO’s WHO OF MEN OF ACHIEVEMENT” towards extra ordinary Academic Leadership and exemplary accomplishments (1992) & world WHO is WHO In addition he has distinction of being included in ‘International WHOs WHO OF INTELLECTUALS – UK (1991 – 92).for his outstanding academic and social contribution for child welfare.
He has been Elected to the coveted Post of National President – Indian Academy of Pediatrics – India’ for the term 1993 – 94 being the Youngest President in the History of ASIA to head the National Academy. The IAP in the only statutory body of Pediatricians with 30, 0000 members from all over India today ..
He has the unique honour of being the only Executive Director in the history of IAP. He has been the first Indian pediatrician to be the President of International Society of Tropical Pediatrics and subsequently got elected to the coveted post of Standing Committee Member of International Pediatric Association – The Global Pediatric forum.
He was invited as an “Expert in Social Pediatrics for the “Citizen Ambassador Programme of People to People” by the University of South Florida USA.
Dr. Uday Bodhankar has been awarded the most prestigious global award for his outstanding academic leadership in the field of child health as OUTSTANDING YOUNG PERSON OF THE WORLD (TOYP).at Hong Kong in 1994. He has been awarded the outstanding pediatrician of Asia award in China in Oct. 2009.

He is a founder of Neonatal chapter of India Academy of Pediatrics & fought for the Rights of Newborn in India since 1981. His other social contribution towards better new born care in India is noteworthy.
Must to mention a few, he strived hard for extended Maternity leave benefits for working mothers, in public private industries / sector in India. & initiated the regulation of INFANT FOOD ACT during his tenure as National President IAP in 1994.

The health scenario of maternal & neonatal care is extremely vital to control the staggeringly high neonatal mortality in developing countries, including India. He has pioneered a Novel project of inexpensive transport Care facility for the high risk Newborn.
He Pioneered the Intensive Neonatal and Child Care Hospital; First of its kind in central India with Ultra-Modern facilities and 24 hours Pediatric and Neonatal – Emergency Services since 1988 and extended all types of medical help to the needy irrespective of financial status and so far registered more than 10 lacs, children, in a short span of 40 years.
He has conducted more than 1000 Immunization diagnosis and Management Camps in the poor and underprivileged slum areas in collaboration with Government agencies, Lions, Jaycees, Rotary, and other non-Government Organisation (NGO) s.
He Delivered more than 100public lectures related to Child Health problems on Radio and Television and also Conducted Child Health Awareness Camps in the rural areas to educate people about the common Newborn and Childhood diseases, its complications, prevention, and emergency Home Management.
He has delivered over 100 Scientific Lectures and trained General Practitioners as resources persons of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) – Government of India. & also trained all medical teachers of MS through the IMNCI project of MUHS & UNICEF & Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
